🙏😊🙏
Bela loked consistency! That was the name of the game in the 90s and having a name in the sport
I remember this airing not realizing just how quickly she would rise. The national champ on FX later that summer. 1992 World Championships debut the following spring. Three Olympic teams, a decade of world medals and AA excitement later. STILL one of the greatest talents ever to come up in USAG.
My favorite gymnast! ❤
I'm impressed with this floor set. She did as well in this routine as the 4th thru 6th usa girls at the olympics on it imo.
Браво! ❤👏🌷🌷🌷
She was a terrible gymnast! The fact that she won the vault andd floor at this meet was a travesty! How the hell could she win an Uneven bars Worlds title! This quad is when the Romanian teams started to ruin gymnastics imo
I find it amazing how the top Romanians pro 89 like Silivas, Szabo, Commaneci, were super popular and beloved, and all the ones since then detested by fans. It is like their whole system changed.
THE COMMENTATOR HAS THE WORST VOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s my mom
If her routine is unique and she performs very well on uneven bars then why she did not get the gold medal instead of bronze medal in olympic games may be the names of us and chinese gymnasts are written on gold medals
Best of the best!!!
I think inconsistencies can hurt any gymnast's reputation
Unlike today, the audience enjoying quietly
She definitely belonged on the '88 Olympic team, it's such a bummer that injuries forced her to withdraw during Nationals and Trials. There's something about her that makes you want to watch what she's doing, at least for me that is, and she was of course world class in the sport. What's great though is that Sabrina has gone on to have multiple very successful careers and seems to be doing well today, so that's pretty awesome!
What a huge hop on the landing. Very costly.
😢
That's my wife! Lol..
So very sad that she was injured and consequently had to retire early. She was treated harshly and her routines seemed to me to be deliberately underscored! She is in my top 5 gymnasts of all time - loved her elegance and difficulty.
Interesting. Baitova mentioned training back to back Burda twirls on the high and low bars, but said she had never successfully competed it. I think that's what she was going for here. Kathy speaks as though Svetlana had shown a Burda on the high bar before, and I don't remember that. (Off to look at more routines from thirty-five plus years ago lmao)
I must have rewound and rewatched that last pass and ending pose hundreds of times, in 1993 on the VHS tape I recorded it on, and again just now lol. Gorgeous. Beautiful gymnast we didn’t get to see enough of.
Really stylish ❤
Wait a second. She can do good split jumps? I always thought she was inflexible based on her optional routines.
Greatest dancing Mary-Lou!
Beautiful routine, coreography divine. The second pass, dramatic and full of content with twists
I wish she was just told she didn't have to or not to vault. She clearly was never going to be used on vault at the Olympics. Had she made the Olympics she is only used on bars/beam, so with an injury to boot, she should have been told to just focus on those events. I get this was not the day of specialists but in the days of the 6-5-4 format you could get away with that.
I forget, did she make the Olympic team?
Allyse was named as one of the alternates for Athens (alongside Chellsie Memmel and Tasha Schwikert).
Excellent!
Wow amazing floor
A bail is a release, too.
She deserved to be on the Olympic team, not an alternate
Shannon Miller or Kerri Strug used this music around this time too.
Great vault. Scored to harshly
Wasn't the laid out Jaeger already named after Cappuccitti by this time?
Very inconsistent on beam
Well apart from the ending Oksana appeared to be in great form here.
Always thought she and Vanessa were the better dancers of this era.
Beautiful gymnastics. Just lacked the consistency to make it big
Fantastic routine!
Great vault! That was a lowball score
I can't imagine having to do 3 of those head-release leaps would have felt very good on her back.
0:06 It's so good to know that today's intern competitions are about the gymnasts themselves, not about being able to "impress Marta Károlyi". Every single national competition until 2017 was about goddamn "impressing Marta Károlyi".
The way the entire corner of the FX mat lifted up as she landed the double layout, that's some massive power!
I always thought this is one of the prettiest triple twists I’ve ever seen. It’s up there with Onodi's
One of the BEST!
wow
She said in a podcast interview that the federation was playing games and this was her mental middle finger to them.
how is screwing up your chances to compete a middle finger to them?
I never understood why/how they got her at a 9.7 sv. She blatantly had .7 in tumbling alone, then she had .3 in dance. Take away 0.1 for the required D and you have a 9.9sv
Huh...you know, I don't think that Shannon was as lost as Tim made her out to be. I thought she covered pretty well. I might have gone 9.7, but if you didn't know her routine, you might not have realized anything was wrong.
That mount was NUTS!
At least this routine had a backhandspring back tuck flight series instead of just a handstand back tuck like in the 84 Olympics.
